Moving your data to a new iPhone
Files saved by iCap, iDig and the other umebo apps are normally stored on your iPhone. They are not automatically uploaded to an umebo server. Before you erase or trade in your old iPhone, make sure the data is visible on the new one.
What to know first
Starting a transfer does not erase the old iPhone
Your data remains on the old iPhone while you transfer to a new one. A failed transfer does not normally delete the original app data. It stays there unless you erase the old device or delete the app.
Do not erase, trade in, or delete the app from the old iPhone until you have checked the data on the new one.
Use Quick Start or restore from a device backup
You can transfer directly with Apple's Quick Start, restore from an iCloud backup, or restore a backup made on a Mac or Windows PC. When the device migration completes normally, the app and its saved app data are transferred together.
If the new iPhone does not have enough storage
If the new iPhone does not have enough free space, it may not be able to take all of the data from the old one. Videos and large image collections can make iCap or iDig use a substantial amount of storage.
Before erasing the old iPhone, use one of these options:
- Remove data you no longer need before migrating
- Copy important folders from Files to iCloud Drive or a computer
- Move to an iPhone with enough storage for the data you want to keep
You can inspect the app's files in Files → On My iPhone → the app name. If you need to reduce storage, copy anything important somewhere else before deleting it.
How to check that the migration worked
- Open the app on the new iPhone and check that your folders, videos, or images are present
- Open Files → On My iPhone → the app name and confirm that the actual files are there
- Open a few files to make sure they display or play normally
Do not erase the old iPhone or delete the app from it until these checks are complete.
Common questions
My transfer failed. Is the data still on the old iPhone?
Normally, yes. A failed transfer to the new device does not automatically delete app data from the old device. Check the app itself and Files on the old iPhone.
The new iPhone is smaller. Can I move only iCap or iDig?
There is no umebo feature that selectively shrinks and transfers just one app's saved data as part of a full-device migration. If space is tight, use Files on the old iPhone to copy important data to iCloud Drive or a computer first, then reduce what remains on the phone.
If I reinstall the app from the App Store, will my saved data come back?
No. Reinstalling the app by itself does not restore its saved files. To restore them, use a device migration, restore a device backup, or bring back files that you copied elsewhere beforehand.
What about my Premium purchase?
Purchases are separate from saved files. If the new iPhone shows you as a regular user, sign in with the same Apple Account used for the purchase and try Restore Purchase. You do not need to buy it again.
I no longer have the old iPhone
If you still have an iCloud backup or a backup made on a Mac or Windows PC, you may be able to restore from it. If there is no backup and you cannot access the old iPhone, umebo cannot recover files that existed only on that device.
If the migration finished but the data is missing
See Saved data is missing for additional checks.
If you still need help
If you still have the old iPhone, keep it as-is and do not erase it. Then contact us and tell us how you migrated (Quick Start, iCloud backup, computer backup, and so on), and whether the data is visible on each device.
